Defining fear from an ontological point of view and its presence in the realm of aesthetics is this article’s objective: fear apparently emerges from the most human condition: fragility.
Moreover, the feeling of fear is the most visible sign of “anxiety about the self.” Fear implies disorder and the unknown in opposition to order and beauty.
Literary modernity manages to give life to this territory of otherness and difference. Fear penetrates its dominion along with the sinister and in the company of the feeling of the fantastic.
